Gail D'Onofrio
Professor of Emergency Medicine and Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine
Dr. D'Onofrio is the Albert. E. Kent Professor of Emergency Medicine and Professor of Internal Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine, and Professor of Epidemiology (Chronic Disease) in the Yale School of Public Health.
She has two decades of experience designing and conducting clinical trials for substance use disorders in ED settings. She mentors multiple young investigators within and outside of Yale University.
A founding member of the Board of Addiction Medicine representing Emergency Medicine, she was instrumental in the Birth of Addiction Medicine as a field, now recognized by ABMS as a specialty-subspecialty in Preventive Medicine. An advocate for individuals with substance use disorders, she has partnered with multiple agencies regionally and nationally to change policies and implement interventions to combat the opioid crisis.
She currently serves on the National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse for the NIH.
