HEAL Fresh FAIR Webinar: Essential Elements for Sharing a Data Package
Thu, 3/20/2025 - 1:00pm - 2:00pm
On March 20, the Stewards hosted the FreshFAIR Webinar, Essential Elements for Sharing a Data Package, featuring Sarah Myer, MPH (HEAL Steward), Brienna Larrick, Ph.D. (HEAL Platform), and guest speaker Kristy Carpenter, a Ph.D. candidate from Stanford University.
Sarah Myer highlighted the importance of structured, FAIR-compliant data packaging within the NIH HEAL Initiative, emphasizing how well-organized data and metadata enhance interdisciplinary research, data discoverability, and reuse in pain and addiction studies.
Brienna Larrick provided guidance on key components of effective data packages, recommended file formats, and the mapping of variables to ontologies and semantic standards.
Kristy Carpenter shared insights from her HEAL-funded research, discussing her innovative approach using social media text to predict trends in the opioid crisis, and her work examining molecular-level drug-binding pockets with implications for drug repurposing in opioid use disorder treatment.
Practical, HEAL-specific examples illustrated successful data submissions, and the webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, providing attendees with tools and resources to address data packaging and submission challenges.
Q&A session begins at 43:11
