FAIR-ly Sharing HEAL Data: Maximizing the Power of Publication
Thu, 3/21/2024 - 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Overview
FAIR research publication advances reproducibility and data reuse for collaborative discovery and innovation, which is critical for the NIH HEAL Initiative®’s goal to urgently stem the national pain and opioid use disorder public health crises. In this month’s Fresh FAIR webinar, HEAL Data Ecosystem Program Officer Anthony Juehne will emphasize the importance of FAIR research publication in HEAL, along with best practices and examples of how to package data associated with a publication. The webinar will then feature lightning talks from Drs. Bruce Young, Songthip Ounpraseuth, and Shamsuddin “Shams” Bhuiyan highlighting their experiences maximizing the impact of their publications by sharing data. Phil Schumm will follow with a demo of the HEAL Data Platform. Participants will also learn about relevant resources available to HEAL investigators. The webinar will conclude with a live Question and Answer session featuring presenters, as well as Dr. Brian Smith.
Speakers
Anthony Juehne, MPH, is a Program Officer for the HEAL Data Ecosystem as part of the NIH HEAL Initiative. Juehne has over fifteen years of experience within the field of healthcare informatics. He has published best practices for conducting and reporting health research to enhance reproducibility, transparency, and accessibility.
Bruce Young, PhD, is a senior fellow with NORC at the University of Chicago in the Public Health department. He has over 29 years of experience in applied research, field experiments, and statistical analysis. His work includes multi-method approaches using nationally representative household panels; organizational surveys with service providers, jails, and law enforcement; and the collection of survey and biospecimen data. He is a Co-investigator for the Justice Community Opioid Innovation Network’s (JCOIN) Methodology Center (MAARC) analyzing the effectiveness of the JCOIN network’s 11 clinical research centers testing medicated assisted treatments for opioid use disorder.
Songthip Ounpraseuth, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). His research interests include pediatric clinical trials, computational statistics, prediction error estimation, dimension reduction & classification, and selection bias. He is an investigator for the study, “Identifying Quality Indicators for Substance Use Disorders,” and co-author of the publication, “Eat, Sleep, Console Approach or Usual Care for Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal.”
Shamsuddin “Shams” Bhuiyan, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow at the Renthal lab at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He studies the evolution of peripheral nervous system cell types. Prior to joining the Renthal lab, he received his PhD in Bioinformatics at the University of British Columbia under the supervision of Dr. Paul Pavlidis.
